Backstory
In the summers of 1993, 1994, and 1995, Sega of America teamed up with Howard Johnson's for a family-focused marketing campaign called "Kids Go HoJo with Sega". The hotel chain used the popularity of Sonic the Hedgehog to attract families with children to boost summer room bookings. Children staying at Howard Johnson's received special promotions and free entertainment, including:
• Free on-site rentals of Sega Game Gear handheld consoles (with games like Sonic the Hedgehog Triple Trouble).
• Collectible Sonic "FunPacks" containing crayons, activity posters, postcards, and mini-comics.
• Promotional VHS tapes featuring tips for Sega games.
• Life-size Sonic cutouts placed in hotel lobbies for photos.
